William Orbit - Odyssey (2010) - VA

KnowIng (and listening) the music taste of an electronica genius like William Orbit will always be an interesting experience for someone who likes his original works, this triple album shows some of his taste and as everything he does...it is so great!!!, as always there're songs by artists not known by common people, but hey, they are there, Orbit shows us in discs 1 and 2 a random selection of his eclectic music taste that may be inspiring sometimes when composing his own works. Disc 3 is a pretty much mixed DJ set that goes from techno, electro house and tech house, Orbit shows us here his mixing abilities (which are not great but selections are).

As I said at the beginning it is an interesting collection this is what a genius does for fun and this is what a person like William Orbit listens in a common day (discs 1 and 2).

Have a listen and enjoy, leave disc 3 for a nice party, sure it will make you dance a little bit.

Editors - In this Light and on This Evening (2009)

What a nice surprise I had when I listened to Editors most recent album (released on November 2009), it's just full of good songs and a mixture between Joy Division, The Cure and Bauhaus, a little more optimistic on some songs like "Bricks and Mortar", "Papillon" (not a lot with the lyrics) and "You don't know me", excellent set of songs to open this album (I didn't like a lot the opener track, but it's just ok).

"Papillon", their new single is so catchy that could even sound on a nice club and make people dance, it was on my mind the whole week it is definitely a nice twist in Editors sound.

"You don't know love" sounds so 80s, but it's terrific!!!, I think this should be their next single, it's a time travel. Another great tune is "Eat Raw Meat = Blood Drool", not so in the Editors style, a little bit of experimentation here, but good enough to fit on this great album.

Nice, catchy, danceable and a little bit dark, this album has it all!!, my second suprise of this year (first one is Broken Bells debut album, I will review that later, the relese is on March 12 I think) give it a listen, you won't regret.

Creed - Full Circle (2009)

Creed - Full Circle (2009)

When I started receiving mails from Wind Up (Creed’s record label) in the middle of 2009 announcing a new single and then a new full lenght album I thought they was going to release a Greatest Hits album or something like that, I was completely disconnected from Creed news since their breakup in 2004. I thought they never gonna come back since their last release Weathered a not so good album that was so far away from that crude and hard rock riffs from their first 2 albums.

In this new album we listen to a revitalized Creed, after 8 years of no recording new material, Overcome the opening track shows us that Creed is alive and well, first half of the album follows this way, then we listen a ballad, Rain, this is the typical Creed ballad, reminds me a little bit to My Sacrifice, but better, I never liked so much that song, with Rain I think they’ve done a better job (track A thousand faces is better too), maybe it’s the experience and the magic the band has when they play together.

Some more heavy tracks follow this album, Bread of Shame, Fear and On my Sleeve are remarkable and fill this album with energy and that good old rock n’ roll vibe Creed had in the early times of My own prison.

Best track I think is Full Circle, it really shows the escence of the sound of Creed and it shows that they recorded this album to make a big comeback and not just a “I need money right now let’s make an album” band reunion so typical in the recently past, let’s hope there’s some more Creed for a few more years.

Les Savy Fav - Let's Stay Friends (2007)

I decided to review and recommend this album just for the simple reason that it has a very nice and refined sound, this band is amazing and there's a lot to say about them.

First, this is not a common album, I can say that because I think there's no happy songs or optimistic lyrics, the band says what it is in life and that is reflected in the music too. Nice riffs and cool solos are all around this album, they know what they're doing and sincerely this album brings me back to a particular time in my life and listen to it again is like being there again, but in a very good way.

I think this album was considered in the Top 10 Indie-rock albums in 2007 and that was what attracted me, and what a nice jewel I found, it's a shame they're not in the mainstream (I think they don't want to), just to show to all indie rock wannabe's what rock and roll really is.

Give it a listen and you'll find a mixture of sounds that will take you to emotions from excitement, nostalgy, sadness and even some joy.

My favourite tracks: Patty Lee, What Wolves Would Do?, Comes & Goes, Brace Yourself.
